Japan's most famous ride 6 islands linked by 6 bridges, with a cycling path running the whole way. Tobishima Kaido, an extra 7 bridges that feature more inclines but with grand views.

This 7-day tour takes you through three of Japan's most rewarding cycling destinations, Fukuoka, the Shimanami Kaido, and Hiroshima, connected by scenic high-speed rail rides that feel like part of the adventure. We begin with a warm-up ride around Shika Island in Fukuoka before boarding the Shinkansen to Onomichi, the starting point of the legendary Shimanami Kaido. Over two days, we cross six suspension bridges linking the islands of the Seto Inland Sea, each one framing a view more beautiful than the last. We then ferry across to the quieter Tobishima Kaido route, a hidden gem far off the tourist trail, before finishing with a moving ride through Hiroshima city. Along the way, nights are spent in a traditional Ryokan on Omishima Island, a genuine highlight that rounds off each day beautifully. The Shimanami Kaido route features some gradual climbs on the bridge approaches, so we recommend building up your cycling stamina before departure. With full logistical support, a mechanic on hand, and routes that balance beauty with just enough challenge, all you need to do is unfold your Brompton and take it all in. For those fortunate enough to own a Brompton, get ready for the adventure of a lifetime in Fukuoka and Shimanami Kaido. Don't have a Brompton? One can be rented for the tour.
